EV Star
GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete line of heavy- and medium-duty all-electric vehicles, including high-floor and lower-floor models. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which is able to accommodate various bodies and upfits for a variety of applications. The platform's clean sheet design allows for optimal battery pack placement and a lower center of gravity, resulting in higher payload to range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries and catering applications. power mobility scooter refrigerated trucks of class 4 with a single wall structure inside, and higher insulation than traditional trucks, allow for seamless sanitation and better temperature control. They also have a longer lifespan. The EV Star REEFERX offers superior capacity for cargo and a world-class payload to range ratio for zero emission passenger transport and goods.
GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems, which will enable fleets to make the transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star will also be capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were able to test drive the EV9 on a local highway for several hours and found it to be simple to drive and comfortable to drive long distances. The EV9 can be used to block the sound of traffic and wind driving on the highway. It is smooth on bumps and ruts. The acceleration is quite fast and the car has adjustable regenerative brakes that allow "one pedal driving" by lifting the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be charged within three hours or less at home, or using any commercial charger. The driver can select from two operating modes: eco mode and sport mode. The eco mode prioritizes torque and cruise control while the sport mode maximizes speed and handling. Both are a lot of fun to drive and provide an experience unlike any other for anyone that has not driven an electric vehicle before.
GreenPower offers several other eVehicles, including a multipurpose all-electric minibus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used as executive shuttles, microtransit or transit vanpools, buses, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower is already producing around 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of older diesel vehicles with 100 fully electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration aiming to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet the demand. Their EV Star buses are the first of their kind to be Altoona tested and FMVSS certified. They are Buy America compliant, and ADA conforming. This means they'll be eligible for federal assistance in transit. We will be following the AV Star as it goes on its public demonstration tour the coming months.
